Property-owner privacy and removal
Isopleth serves public property records: parcel boundaries, assessed values, sales and, where the publisher releases them, the owner of record and the tax-mailing address. These come from county and state assessor and GIS publications, listed by state below and on parcel coverage. We don't buy consumer data, link records to people, or add phone numbers, emails or other contact details.
How we protect owners
- Per-source rules. Each source has a policy for owner names and mailing addresses based on its licence,
its terms and state law. Where reuse is restricted, those fields come back empty with
privacy.reason = "source_policy", and owner or mailing-address search is turned off in that state. - Confidential records stay confidential. Many states let judges, law-enforcement officers, victims of
family violence or stalking and others shield their names from property records (Texas Tax Code 25.025 and Florida
Statutes 119.071(4)(d), for example). When the publisher marks an owner confidential or redacted, we empty every owner
and mailing field on that record (
source_redacted) and never fill them in from another source. - Removal on request. Owners can ask us to remove their name and mailing address from our results
(
owner_opt_out). Removed records are also left out of owner-name searches. - Attribution. Every response names the publisher and licence, and we show attribution where a licence requires it.
Ask us to remove your information
Email support@isopleth.dev with the subject Privacy request, and include:
- the property's state and its parcel number (APN) or street address, or the owner name as it appears in the county record if you want a name removed across a state;
- whether you're a protected person (a judge, prosecutor, law-enforcement officer, elected official, or a victim of domestic violence or stalking). You don't need to send proof, but saying so gets your request handled first.
We act on requests from protected people within 48 hours, and on all others within 10 business days. We confirm by email when it's done. Removal applies to Isopleth's results; your county's own records don't change. For that, ask your county assessor about its confidentiality program. You can also email us to ask what we hold about a property.
Permitted use
Customers agree to the API Terms. Property records may be used for property research, due diligence, valuation, land and energy siting, and property-related business contact. They may not be used to:
- locate, track, surveil, harass, stalk, threaten or harm anyone;
- make decisions about a person's eligibility for credit, insurance, housing, employment or tenancy, or for any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Isopleth is not a consumer reporting agency);
- build mailing lists where the law prohibits it (Montana, for example, bars using agency lists of people as mailing lists without their consent), or contact people in breach of do-not-call or do-not-mail rules;
- re-identify records that the publisher or Isopleth has withheld.
Policy by state
“Not in source” means the publisher releases no owner names for that state. The same policy is in
GET /v1/parcels/coverage and in the privacy block of each parcel response. Some counties have
their own rules, and those apply to records from that county.
