Isopleth API Terms of Service

Effective date: October 28, 2026 · Last updated: October 28, 2026

The short version. Isopleth gives your software facts from public geospatial datasets. Use the results in your own product or analysis, credit the sources, and don't use the API to copy or rebuild the underlying databases. Data can be wrong or out of date, so don't rely on it alone for decisions that matter. If something goes wrong, the most we owe you is what you paid us in the last 12 months (or $100 if you pay nothing).

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

Isopleth is a trade name of Luxitag LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we", "us"). These terms govern your use of the Isopleth API, API keys, the isopleth.dev website and account pages, and any data returned by the API (the "Service"). Our Privacy addendum and the plan and pricing details on Lookups and billing are part of these terms. By creating an account, creating an API key or calling the API, you agree to these terms. If you accept them for a company, you confirm you can bind it, and "you" means that company.

2. Accounts and API keys

You must be at least 18 and give us a working email address. You are responsible for everything done with your account and keys. Keep keys secret, use them only from your servers, and revoke any key you think is exposed. One person or company may not open several free accounts to get around plan limits. We may suspend a key or account that puts the Service at risk or breaks these terms; where reasonable we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

3. What the data is, and what it is not

Results are drawn from public datasets published by government agencies and open-data projects, plus values we derive from them. They describe a point and stated search distances, not a whole parcel. Sources can be incomplete, out of date, temporarily unavailable or wrong, and a "no data" or "nothing found" result does not mean there is no risk or feature. Derived scores are our own screening heuristics, not ratings by any agency. The Service is not a survey, title search, appraisal, environmental site assessment, flood determination, engineering study, zoning or permitting determination, insurance rating, or legal, financial or professional advice. You are responsible for checking results before relying on them and for how you use them, including any duty you owe your own customers.

You may not use the Service as the sole basis for decisions about a person's eligibility for credit, insurance, housing or employment, or in any way that the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws would treat as a consumer report.

4. Your license to use results

While your account is in good standing, you may call the API and use, store, display and include the results in your own products, services and analyses, including ones you sell, subject to these terms and to each source's license. You may cache results for as long as you need them for that use. We keep all rights in the Service, the API design, our field catalog and descriptions, documentation, derived values and software, other than the rights in public source data that belong to others.

5. Attribution and source licenses

Every field in a response names its source, license and attribution. When you display, publish or redistribute results, you must show the attribution text for the sources involved, in a place a reasonable user would see it (for example near the data, in a credits panel or on an about page), and follow the license listed for each source. Do not remove or change source credits or suggest that any data provider endorses you. The full list is on Sources and licenses.

Open Database License (ODbL) data. Some fields come from OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps and Open Infrastructure Map under the ODbL 1.0. For those fields you must credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors" (and Overture Maps Foundation where shown). You may use individual values in your products, but you may not use the API to extract, copy, reconstruct or redistribute all or a substantial part of the underlying database, for example by systematically querying a grid of points to rebuild a road, building or power-line layer. If you publicly use a database that you derived from ODbL values, you are responsible for meeting the ODbL's share-alike and notice terms for that database.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • resell, sublicense or provide raw API access, or a substantially similar data service, to others, or offer the results as a standalone dataset or competing geospatial data API;
  • systematically harvest the Service to build or enrich a database that substitutes for the Service or for the underlying source databases, beyond the results your own product needs;
  • share keys outside your organization, create accounts to get around limits, or get around rate limits, quotas, billing, field restrictions or other access controls;
  • use the Service to locate, track, surveil, harass or harm any person, or for any unlawful or discriminatory purpose;
  • probe, scan or test the Service's security, overload it, interfere with other users, or reverse engineer it, except as the law permits despite this limit;
  • misrepresent the source, accuracy or official status of the data, or present results as an official government determination.

If you need higher volume, a different license, or bulk data, email support@isopleth.dev.

7. Plans, payment and taxes

Free plans have the limits shown on our pricing. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions billed in advance and renew automatically until you cancel in the billing portal. Top-ups are one-time purchases that expire as stated at purchase. Prices exclude taxes, which are added at checkout where required. Payments are processed by Stripe and subject to its terms; we do not see or store your full card number. Unused monthly lookups don't roll over. You can cancel a subscription anytime in the billing portal; it stops renewing, you keep paid access to the end of the current billing period, and partial periods are not prorated or refunded. Unused top-ups bought within the last 14 days can be refunded on request by emailing support@isopleth.dev. Otherwise payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires. We may change prices or plan limits for future periods with at least 30 days' notice by email; the change applies from your next renewal, and you can cancel before then. We may change free-plan limits at any time.

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and fast, but we don't promise any uptime, response time or that any particular source or field will stay available. Public sources change and sometimes disappear. We may add, change or retire fields, presets and endpoints; for a breaking change to a documented field or endpoint we will try to give paid customers at least 30 days' notice.

9. Disclaimer

The Service and all results are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we and our suppliers disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: (a) neither Luxitag LLC nor its members, managers, employees or suppliers will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, business or goodwill, or for the cost of buying, not buying, building on, insuring, lending against or developing any property, even if told such damages were possible; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to the Service or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or US $100. Some laws don't allow these limits; where they apply, the limits apply only as far as the law permits.

11. Your responsibility to us

You will defend and cover us against third-party claims, and related reasonable losses and costs, arising from your products or services, your use of results, or your breach of these terms or a source license, to the extent the law allows.

12. Ending use

You can stop using the Service and delete your keys at any time, and cancel paid plans in the billing portal. We may suspend or end your access for a material breach of these terms, non-payment, or if required by law or by a data provider. Sections 3, 4 (for results you obtained lawfully), 5, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 13 survive.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Please email us first; most issues can be fixed quickly. Any lawsuit about these terms or the Service must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas, and both of us agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an eligible claim in small claims court.

14. Changes and other terms

We may update these terms. For a material change we will email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect, except for changes required by law or a data provider. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept it. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a term right away is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them to a successor to the Service. These terms are the whole agreement about the Service unless we sign a separate written agreement with you.
